“ At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance..... We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again. ”

Tryst with Destiny was a speech made by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India on the early hours to declare to the world and India in particular that India is now free from British raj. power. WIKIPEDIA defines freedom as “The capacity to determine your own choices” and right to act according to ones will without being held up by the power of others. Today, the 15th of August is a perfect day, to look back the past and try to correct every mistakes we committed that might make a difference of any magnitude to the society in the near future

.

I know to what extent a little mistake by a common man like me make an impact on the society, but it is so tough to measure the impact of mistakes committed by strong figures like national leaders, and one such good example I can recollect is that of our first prime minister. Our beloved Chacha Nehru in 1953 had a golden opportunity of listing INDIA as a permanent member of UNSC when the American president gave a proposal to Indian PM, but to put India on the map of diplomats and call itself non-aligned, Nehru declined that offer and presented this gift to China and later in the next decade China gave shrouds as a return thanking gift for our brave soldiers killed by their men. Today India is in race along with strong contenders like Japan, Brazil and Germany and its only time can tell whether we ever get that golden opportunity again to define ourselves as super power.

I don’t know whether it was really a mistake (blunder) or an opportunity to show to the world what standby…. that is, INDIA- believes in peace, love their neighbors and admire every individual country, but whatsoever it was indeed a learning experience.

Aug 15th, the day I feel the sense of pride ‘n enjoy the patriotic aura. I would also like to share what media has been so good in discovering the hidden creativity and talent in people. There are so many good patriotic commercials that are shown in the recent times. Take for example the ad wherein a physically challenged old man tries to stand on one leg in rain on hearing the NATIONAL ANTHEM and another such video that is close to my heart is that of a kid who wishes the national flag on its birthday. Please do watch this video…. It’s really cute.
